Howard Street Closure

The university was notified last week that the intersection of Appalachian and Howard streets, adjacent to Peacock Hall, will close beginning the week of March 9. This closure is due to the Town of Boone’s ongoing Howard Street Revitalization Project. The intersection is expected to reopen in late March.  

Impact on Parking and Traffic Flow

• Access to the Valborg Lot and ADA close-proximity parking spaces at Peacock Hall, along Joyce Lawrence Lane and near Smith Wright Hall, will be rerouted through the Turchin Center Lot via temporary ramps.
• The Turchin Center Lot will temporarily lose three parking spaces to allow for this traffic shift.
• This closure does not affect the Peacock Traffic Circle AppalCART stop or existing pedestrian pathways to the stop.
