Parking update: Intersection of Appalachian and Howard Streets Closure

The university was notified last week that the intersection of Appalachian and Howard Streets, adjacent to Peacock Hall, will close beginning the week of Nov. 3, due to the Town of Boone's ongoing Howard Street Revitalization Project. The intersection is expected to reopen during the spring semester.

Impact on Parking and Traffic Flow

  • Early this week, access to Valborg Lot will be rerouted through the Turchin Center Lot via temporary ramps. The Turchin Center Lot will temporarily lose three parking spaces to allow for this traffic shift.
  • New directional road arrows and pedestrian pathways will be marked in this area.
  • Access to ADA close-proximity parking spaces at Peacock Hall, along Joyce Lawrence Lane and by Smith Wright Hall will also be rerouted through the Turchin Center Lot. Please note: additional disability parking is available in all campus parking lots.
  • This does not affect the Peacock Traffic Circle AppalCART stop or existing pedestrian pathways to the AppalCART stop.

Please contact Parking and Transportation with any questions.
