Boone Campus Parking Permits

 New for 2024–25

  • The Holmes Drive Parking Deck will open to permit holders on Aug. 16, 2024. 
  • Employees who would like to request a Holmes Drive Parking Deck permit should send an email to parking@appstate.edu and include the following:

    • Banner ID

    • Vehicle information — license plate, state, make, year and color

Standard parking permits held by university employees are valid 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except for football game days and other special events.

  • Motorcycle permits are required for employees who want to park a motorcycle on the Boone campus. These permits are valid 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except for football game days and other special events.
  • No permit is required to park on Boone campus between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. on weekdays or on weekends, except for football game days and other special events.

Faculty/staff Boone campus parking permits will automatically renew for the 2024–25 academic year.

Please contact Parking and Transportation at parking@appstate.edu to cancel your permit.

Hickory Campus Parking Permits

Employees working exclusively at the Hickory campus must register their vehicle at the Campus Services Express Desk.

  • Boone campus permits are valid on the Hickory campus — you do not need to register for an additional Hickory campus permit.

Your license plate is your permit.

  • Faculty/staff may register more than one vehicle; however, only one vehicle may be parked on campus at any given time. 
  • Ensure that all license plate numbers are accurate for cars that will be parked on campus when registering for parking.
  • Registered license plates must be visible to the driving path to be scanned. 
  • Those who wish to back into and/or pull through parking spaces must purchase a front vanity plate — the cost is $15.

Students or employees who wish to back into and/or pull through parking spaces must purchase a front vanity plate from the Parking Office — the cost is $15.

Permits are valid until canceled.

Always be mindful of signage, as events and other circumstances can change, and some spaces remain restricted at all times.

Purchasing a Boone Campus Faculty/Staff Parking Permit

Faculty/staff Boone campus parking permits will automatically renew for the 2024–25 academic year.

  • Review your license plate/vehicle information for accuracy.
    • Make vehicle changes as needed by logging into Self-Service.
      • Select the Employee tab and the Miscellaneous drop-down to access the Parking Registration System.
  • To change or cancel your parking permit: Email parking@appstate.edu beginning Aug. 1 — we will work with you to make changes, subject to space availability.

Online parking registration instructions (Boone campus only)

Use the following instructions to register for a Boone campus parking permit if you do not currently have one. 

Gather the following information before you begin your online registration:

  • App State username and password
  • Vehicle make, model and year
  • License plate number
  • Permit type you wish to purchase
  • Log in to Self-Service, then select the Employee tab and the Miscellaneous drop-down to access the Parking Registration System.
  • Click on Order Permits from the menu at the bottom of the page.
  • Agree to the Terms of Service (PDF).
  • Select permit. You may register for one parking permit. Once a permit type is selected, the system will reserve it for fifteen minutes.
  • Click Add Vehicle and enter vehicle information or select the vehicles you want to add to your permit if they auto-populate from your permit last year.
  • Click Confirm in the bottom right corner, then click the red Add Permit to Cart button in the bottom right corner to proceed.
  • Enter your Contact Information and click the black Checkout button in the bottom right corner.
  • After checkout, you will receive a confirmation email of your registration by the end of the business day. Keep a copy of this confirmation for your records.

Motorcycle Permits

Motorcycle permits cannot be purchased online. Beginning Aug. 1, register in person by visiting:

Payment and Refunds

  • The permit fee displayed above is the amount that will be deducted monthly from your paycheck.
  • Permits no longer needed may be canceled by contacting Parking and Transportation and payroll deduction will be terminated.
