Avoid Problems When Parking in Private Lots or Downtown Spaces
As you may already know, parking in Boone can be challenging. Please read the tips below to prevent your vehicle from being towed, booted, or ticketed.
Private Parking Lots
Some parking lots may appear to be public, when in fact they are private. Read all signage in the parking lot to determine what type of lot you are using. Please be aware that when you park in a privately-owned parking area, you run the risk of being towed or booted. This is particularly true for parking lots in close proximity to campus or on the AppalCART routes. Towing and booting expenses can range from $50 to $80, in addition to the inconvenience of being without a vehicle. Please pay close attention to signage when looking for parking.
Park and Ride
Many students park and ride the AppalCART from the Boone Mall. Though the Boone Mall staff have allowed commuter parking, the majority of the Boone Mall parking spaces are not designated as park and ride spots for the AppalCART. If you choose to park and ride, please be mindful to not park directly in front of retail entrances or in high traffic areas.
Paid Parking Downtown
Parking in downtown Boone is enforced 8:00AM to 5:00PM, Monday—Saturday. The Town of Boone has installed smart meters for all on-street parking and pay-stations for the King and Depot Street parking lots in 2015. Parking on-street is $1/hour for up to 2 hours at a time and parking in the King and Depot Street lots is $1/hour for up to 10 hours at a time. Smart meters and pay-stations accept coins, debit, and credit cards. More information, including a map of downtown parking spaces can be found here."
